Hydrosols are by-products which are collected during the steam distillation of various plants, flowers and herbs. The term “Hydrosol” comes from the latin words “Hydro” (means water) and “Sol” (means solution). Consequently hydrosol is the watery solution and was first used be the American herbalist Jeanne Rose in 1990. Hydrosols are also referred as Floral waters or Distillate waters.
They are full of anti-inflammatory and water soluble ingredients of the plant, while they are free of any irritant substance and therefore they are ideal for natural skin care for both children and adults, for males and females. The authentic Hydrosols do not contain any alcohol and synthetic essences. They are antiseptic, styptic, refreshing and are considered to be perfect substitutes of tonic lotions, after shaves and invigorate hair products. They can also be used for compresses, skin cleaning and can be added to bath water. Moreover, they can be used for house-sanitization creating a nice and refreshing atmosphere or can be added to the detergent when washing clothes.
After consulting a physician or a druggist, various hydrosols can be ingested with food, water or juice. As they contain no ethereals but only water soluble ingredients of plants, ingestion is not dangerous, as far as the cautions for use are carefully followed.
